CONCRETE

CITIZEN ROBOTICS - 3D-PRINTED ACOUSTIC CONCRETE

Assembly-line manufacturers often dispose of robotic equipment at the end of the assembly line lifecycle.

Citizen Robotics refurbished one such robotic arm from a manufacturing plant in Chicago for the purpose of 3D printing affordable structures in Detroit.

This print is an interior feature wall enclosing an ADA-compliant restroom and employee breakroom. The 3D print process allowed the team to customize the shape of the wall while also adapting its foundation to the uneven floor surface the wall was being printed on.

When concrete is shaped into a flat surface, it is highly reflective. The curved and textured design of this wall, made possible through 3D printing, mitigates direct reflections and maximizes sound diffusion.
