Umbel works with manufacturers, architects, and designers to leverage the acoustic properties of any material.

We've worked in wood, stone, resin, glass, concrete, metals, plants, plaster, books, light fixtures and, of course, felt, foam, and textiles.

The word Umbel is a botanical term for a flower structure that grows outward from a common point of origin. We are inspired by the untapped acoustic potential of architectural ornamentation, and the plants that underlie so much of it.

Umbel is based in the futuristic city of Detroit, immersed in its growth and surrounded by plants.

Umbel's wordmark was designed by Signal Type Foundry. The typefaces are Reckham and Ballinger Mono, also by Signal.
